Losing While Cruising: Would You Ever Diet Onboard?

Has Carnival already got us on a diet with these portion sizes?

For many, it’s a hard no. A cruise represents a time to let go of responsibility and experience the best of life – and any sort of deprivation hardly fits into that fantasy.

Recently, a cruise vlogger whom I really admire, Mr. Tony from La Lido Loca has given me a new perspective — and, I can’t lie, I’m a little bit obsessed with his health journey. He’s been doing Weight Watchers while cruising and losing several pounds a week doing it. While cruising. What is this witchery?! And how can I copy it?

As more people shy away from the word “diet” and make long-term changes in their eating, is it really a question of deprivation anymore? Maybe not. Lifestyles are changing, and the old model of commuting to a job, living at home most of the year, and going on one or two very food-indulgent vacations might just be going by the wayside. Many of us now enjoy some beautiful, crazy mashup of work, homelife and travel, and want to preserve our health as much as possible while doing that. After all, vegetarians, vegans, people who need to be gluten-free or have food allergies all manage to eat within their parameters on cruises — why not me?

So next time I cruise (June 25…Come on, June 25!) I plan to try something new. I’m going to conquer my fear of missing out on every amazing mouthful (and eating literally EVERYTHING) and practice some sensible moderation. I’ll eat no more and no less than I do at home. I’ll try to eat the same way and on the same schedule. Will I successfully avoid those evil little delicious dinner rolls and maybe, just maybe, at least not GAIN anything? We’ll soon find out — and I’ll surely be keeping you posted!
