White Lotus Vibes in Cozumel? Welcome to The Cabana Beach Club (Review)

White Lotus tranquility, with none of the murder…

Dreaming of quiet luxury, but not looking to spend Four Seasons-money?  I’ve got you.

Always the skeptic, when I saw the promo photos of the Cabana Beach Club at Chankanaab, I had questions.  Why had I never heard of this place?  Why did they have last-minute availability?  And does it really look like… that?  Serene, breathtaking tropical heaven?  Yeah, it kinda does.

The first thing you’ll notice is what’s not present. The typical Cozumel crowds. With only 12 Cabanas for rent, this place feels like a deserted island, in the best possible way. There WERE other groups there, but we really didn’t notice each other, and they never felt intrusive. Everyone is spoiled by copious private space, and the staff is plentiful, friendly and attentive. When our cabana’s concierge met our taxi at the entrance and walked our group in, we knew we were in for great service.

The leap is about 4 feet, but the first time feels like forty

In addition to the private cabana areas, there are plentiful spaces open to everyone — no fighting for chairs here — every single person in our group could have had their own beach bed if we’d so desired. While there are no typical Cozumel water activities like jet skis or inflatables – this was truly an unforgettable day for us. One of the friendly owners took the time to tell us where to go for the best snorkling and how jump into the freshwater inlet while avoiding bodily harm. Other members of our party went on a very reasonably-priced dive set up by the resort and gave it rave reviews. If you want to swim and snorkel in astounding natural beauty or just seriously relax – you’ve found your spot.

Our group of 10 rented one of the larger Cabana areas (includes private Cabana, hammock, picnic table and beach bed)  and paid roughly $44 USD per person. This includes your admission to Chankanaab park and all its amenities, admission to the Cabanas Beach Club and your own private Cabana. This does NOT include any food or drink – but those are available at the Happy Crab bar.

And how *were* the food and drinks? Great. We wildly over-ordered, getting Cerviche, Ahi Tuna Nachos, two OTHER kinds of nachos, a cheeseburger, and at least a couple of other things I can’t recall, as well as alcoholic beverages all around… and still only spent about an additional $200 on food.

That’s for 10 people.  The total bill for us was still only about $75 a person, all in. For an unbelievably beautiful resort and unforgettable experience with ZERO crowds?  That’s a huge bargain, in my book. Can you find cheaper in Cozumel?  Sure, if you’re really on a budget, check out Del Mar Latino (walking distance from port, $45 – all food and beverages included).  BUT, if you want to treat yourself a little? Cabana Beach Club is a big step up, and an amazing value. I can’t wait to go back. 10/10
